Two roads diverged in a yellow wood . . .

OK. I admit it. I've always wanted to take the road not taken. And I've taken a lot of them. The most recent one has brought me to Merida, Yucatan, Mexico where, along with Chichen Itza, now one of the Seven Wonders of the World (against my advice since it's manmade), WalMart, Sam's Club, Starbucks and malls, we still have iguanas and rocks. Lots of rocks here. Enough to gather out of the fields and build houses and walls with.

This morning while walking Lou Boo, I saw an iguana sunning himself on a wall here in the 'burbs. Go, iguana. Don't let us run you out.

I don't like living in a land stolen by the Spanish from iguanas and the Indians, but I've always lived on land stolen from the Indians, whether southern Ohio or Florida, so what else is new?

This is such a peaceful place. Some might call it the Bradenton of Mexico. Peaceful and boring. Oh, well, bring me a Corona and a good book until it's time to pack for that 8 day trip back to Florida, the only time I live totally in the here and now.

Even when you were small, you wanted to take the unbeaten path, so it's not surprising to me that you lead an unconventional life, while I, deeply unconventional inside, lead a highly conventional exterior life. I live vicariously with you as I imagine the iguana sunning itself, and I remind you that the here-and-now is not what it used to be. Chill out, uncap a Corona and drink to the wanderlust you inherited from Daddy!

I always wanted to bring Daddy down here with me for a trip. Once when he found out I'd been to Honduras, he said, in that way he could look you right in the eye and you knew you'd better give him a good answer, "WHAT IS IT LIKE?" and I thought a bit and replied, "Like Chauncey or Millfield when you were growing up." And he nodded, satisfied.

I've been on that road, "the one not taken," a time or two. It's not that great.

You're coming to Florida? You better be coming to visit me. I mean it!
