How great Thou art

This great hymn was played at both Mother's and Dad's funerals, and it is my favorite hymn ever.

But when the music played, the words were missing. And the words are the most important part.

I'm reprinting them here so that all of you can remember with me that it's not about us -- or even about Mom and Dad or each other. We are no less in God's hands than they are now. They just have a different home now.

This music must have rung out at the world's creation, and I hope you find the same comfort in it that I do.

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;

I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

Oh, thank you, Nannygoat!! I'm going to listen to it right now, but reading the words helps so much. Listening to and believing "How Great Thou Art" is as close as I come to true worship, but it's a lot.

Nan, this is absolutely one of my most beautiful hymns, which always takes me back to all my years of the pretty little Chauncey Church, and the wonderful people that our family worshipped with. I have always missed it....

I can barely remember the Chauncey Church, so until I found my wonderful church here, I thought "church" was like the First Christian in Athens. I'm glad you have memories of the Chauncey Church, which Mom also loved. When I hear this hymn, my spirit soars.
