You can't take it with you

This wonderful photo is the proverbial picture that speaks 1,000 words, so if you don't have time to read my diatribe, then just study this photograph, aptly titled, "You can't take it with you."

This is so true! After watching Mom trying to get rid of "things" before she died; I realized what really is important, and it is NOT things; but the LOVE of family and the memories we will never throw away.
She loved me enough not want to leave "stuff" that I would have to worry about, and that is exactly the reason she gave me for her frantic last minute acts that seemed so unreasonable to me! After all, she was 94; and I wanted her to rest! But she knew she would rest soon, and that she 'couldn't take it with her' . I will always cherish this quality in my Mother.

Mom treasured many of her things, but she always knew their place, and toward the end, she felt it was her responsibility to clean up after herself, just as she always taught us to do. She was ever practical and ever thoughtful, wasn't she?

Don't talk about it anymore right now. I can't think about her in the past tense today. :(

I don't know if that is Granddad, but it might as well be. I like to think of him walking away with his hands in his pockets.
