www.flickr.comToday is a good day. Suzi is coming to visit, and for the next several days, we'll look a lot like these two best friends.
How many times have we asked each other what we would do without the other one? How many times have we pulled each other out of the deep, dark place only other depressed people know about? And how many times have we celebrated our small victories and special times in our lives?
The last two times I saw Suz were at Mom's funeral and at Dad's. She has lost her husband and her father, so she knew how hard this was for me. She always knows.
Suz is one of the wisest people I know, and she is the best listener I've ever found. She will also do the hard things best friends are called upon to do: Tell the truth. Just be there, no matter what.
So there will be lots of talking, lots of ranting, lots of remembering when while she's here. But most important of all, we will just have a chance to be together, strengthening the bond we have so that whichever one of us has to hold on to the other the next time, she'll be strong enough to pull her through whatever life throws her way.
