Look at those beautiful faces. Photo taken June 14, 2007.Last summer, we helped our mom and dad celebrate a milestone that still amazes me and others who hear about it. They were married for 75 years! They married in the Great Depression, lost their first baby, Robert, went on to have five more children, worked incredibly hard all of their lives and were more grounded than any people I've ever known. They were never old fogeys, never lost interest in what their families were doing, but they never tried to be anything other than what they were and who they were. They taught us how to solve problems, how to keep our own feet on the ground, how to age with grace and, finally, how to face the end of their lives with courage. There was never a time they weren't setting a good example for all of us, even if we weren't always living up to it.
Think of all of the marriages that fail. My own first marriage ended after nearly 25 years. Divorce is as common as marriage now and nearly as acceptable. It just makes me wonder if I tried hard enough -- if a lot of us try hard enough.

This is so beautiful Nan-it brings tears again!
I DO miss them........
I started to write, too, but had to quit because seeing that picture just finished me off. I had things I wanted to say, to elaborate on your thoughts, Nanny, but they'll have to wait 'til later. I don't want anything to detract from what you've written. Suffice it for now to sum it up: THEY WERE THE BEST!!!!
