Transported

I'm under a spell. The last book I read that left me in this state was A Prayer for Owen Meany. I remember closing the book and taking a long, long walk to try to ground myself again.

Reading a good book is like being body-snatched. Nothing prosaic like cooking dinner or walking the dog matters. The pages keep turning. You are in those pages. You don't know where they'll take you, but you can't get out. And when you're finished, you want to start at page 1 again because you've invested so much of yourself in the characters and story that your other life, your "real" one, no longer exists.

I just finished reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. Fabulous. Amazing. And as soon as the spaceship dumps me back on planet Earth, I want to read it all over again.
