A 78-year-old boy

Yep, that's my Georgie. He's 78 today. And he's wearing his new lid from Patti, the only gift he's getting for his birthday.

Funniest thing is that it's the exact hat that Beth picked out for him before Christmas, but I told her I knew Patti was getting him a new hat for his birthday, so she didn't get it. Who knew it was the very same one.

He's a hat kind of guy, being bald as a cue ball. And even though he is more his Scottish mother than his Irish father, he started his day with Irish oatmeal and a fine and dandy hat made in Ireland.

So the years are piling up on him, but he's really just a boy inside. And thankfully for me, he gets mellower each year, so he doesn't pull that authoritarian crap on me much anymore.

This is the guy who makes sure I have a roof over my head, who takes care of me and keeps me off the street.

Happy birthday, Georgie.

I know that I'm not a family member FOR REAL, and honestly, I'm amazed that I have the technical savvy to hijack Ajax Rock, for a moment, with a comment. This is Patti, and may I say that George W. (Whalen, not the guy who is thankfully leaving office; not-so thankfully moving to my city) sat up with me to watch the Olympics this past year, and has always delighted me with a joke, a smile and the ultimate hospitality. He even lets me beat him at golf. George deserves 78 fine hats, a million smiles and all the joy in the world. I hope it was a great day, George. I'll be quiet now. :)

We're going to have a bash for his 80th birthday! Put it on your calendars. He loves a party, and, being married to me, he doesn't get fussed over nearly enough; so I'm going all out for the 80th.

Well, George, will you accept one more "I'm sorry; but your birthday slipped up on me too!"
Don and I wish you a wonderful day to a wonderful brother-in-law!!
The "kid" in you will always keep you young-have a great birthday-this is the ONLY chance you will have to be 78 :)
