In praise of goobers

Native to the Americas, peanuts are neither true nuts nor peas. And they've been getting a bad rap in recent years due to the number of kids who are allergic to them.

Let's get right to the bottom line here: Who can truly live without the staff of life: peanut butter? You can exist, sure, but life without peanut butter would be a sorry state of affairs. You can have my peanut butter when you scrape it off my cold, dead palate.

It's fabulous with bread, especially toast, superb with celery, apples and even pickles, and it's heavenly with chocolate. It's an entire food group, all by itself.

It's portable, practically non-perishable and cholesterol-free. Plant-based and relatively cheap. What's not to like?

Peanut butter toast and black coffee make a perfect breakfast. Peanut butter on whole wheat bread with raisins is a satisfying lunch, especially with an apple and carrot sticks on the side. I once found a peanut butter and raisin sandwich sealed in a plastic bag in my car, and even though it had been there for weeks, it still tasted pretty darn good.

Peanut butter. Plebian, homely, smooth or crunchy.

Peanuts. Roasted, toasted, salted or plain.

Peanut brittle. Peanut soup. Peanut clusters. Peanut sauce.

Peanuts. It's what's for dinner.

Giggle!! :) Not me!! I cannot live without peanut butter! I carry it by the case with me to Mexico. Sure, we can buy Jif here, and some brand called Aladdin, but SKIPPY is not around nor is natural peanut butter! I even found, in Publix in Florida, a new peanut butter with flax oil and seed and a bit of honey in it, a truly holy peanut butter, as if it weren't already holy enough. :) But a three week old sandwich, Nannygoat? Sounds like the bread must not have been REAL!! ;)
P.S. Peanut butter truly is an AMERICAN phenomenon. I read that many many years ago a dr. came up with it for elderly people who couldn't chew. From cradle to grave. The all-round best food! Yea for peanut butter!!
