538 Dot Com

Here's my favorite election-related link of the day: http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/. The guy who runs this site, Nate Silver, is a sabermetrician (baseball statistician) and avid poker player. He was on the Colbert Report this afternoon, and it turns out that he is also a moderator on Mitch's on-line poker website. His models aggregate all the existing polls to produce a projection of the upcoming election results (methodology).

The number 538 is significant, of course, because that's how many members there are in the electoral college.

Trust our economist/mathematician to find this for us. I keep wondering if the various polls are reporting popular vote or electoral college votes. Now I have a place to find answers. Yippee!
