An un-birthday

Well, somehow it doesn't feel like an occasion this year. Turning 61, I mean. My choice has been to spend it like every other day. No fanfare. No cake. No hoopla.

Maybe it's because there was no card from Momma this year. And the prelude to my September birthday was always Mom's and Dad's August birthdays.

Maybe it's because I'm at the age where I'd rather not count them any more.

For whatever reason, I'm just willing to turn the calendar page and see another day come and go. My only wish, really, is that there be fewer losses this year. Anybody want to drink to that?

Well, happy unbirthday to you. I firmly believe that you should've worn a tiara and pranced about, but that's just me. I wear a tiara every day.

Anyhow, I hope your birthday didn't suck too bad!

It was just fine having an ordinary birthday. And I have those fancy red shoes you bought on Ebay to look forward to.

Some years you celebrate. Some you don't. Nothing is worse than forced frivolity.

Thank you, Cecilia. A fine birthday wish it is, too. Now if she would just drop off the ends of the earth, we'd all be much, much better off.

Hope you are feeling better.
